Make New Friends

by Adrienne Yates

I have enjoyed the relationships I’ve gained through my five year experience with MOPS. To me, MOPS is not just a group of moms who get together once or twice a month, but also an opportunity to build and grow relationships with other moms. We do play dates, go for coffee and practice what it means to be a true friend. Practices like opening your home for a friend in need, sacrificing a bit of your time to help another mom and finding the courage to ask a friend for help when you’re at your wit’s end.

"I’ve learned to make
new friends and to be
an authentic friend."

MOPS allows me to live out my faith in ways that connect deeply with others rather than just on a superficial level. True community involves showing others what you are like in your life — all the good stuff as well as the messes, the disorganization, the fears and the imperfections. My MOPS years have created this type of community for me, and it has made all the difference.
I’ve learned to make new friends and to be an authentic friend – a friend who listens, doesn’t judge, lends a hand and speaks well of others. This time of year, MOPS groups are starting off the year together. Women all over the world are ready to connect with one another in meaningful ways. Who will become your new friend? And whose will you become?
